The speaking of the animals in general is always presented in a sort of ethereal way, with their mouths moving with little connection to the actual words coming out, as if the animal language itself was being translated. But Moro has a deep growling voice that is far removed from Anderson's lilt. <BR/><BR/>I think the intentions of the American dub were really positive, and that wins points with me.Doug Tilleyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17291634680094221868noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7295641698816483686.post-16738457037613377342009-02-19T10:19:00.001-05:002009-02-19T10:19:00.001-05:00Also, great write up.Also, great write up.Bradhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10638457313380556662noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7295641698816483686.post-34767329877003514402009-02-19T10:19:00.000-05:002009-02-19T10:19:00.000-05:00Man, I love Princess Mononoke. Sure, the "monk" is probably a villain, but he's definitely more motivated by greed than pure "cartoonish" evil. And Lady Eboshi is almost Christ-like: friend 'o the hooker, tender of lepers, etc. Despite being a fantasy cartoon, I think it has a pretty mature view of man vs. nature, with neither being essentially good or evil. I also especially like the Ashitaka, though set up as a sort of action hero, is the one figure trying to find balance, and whose quest is to "see with eyes unclouded by hatred."<BR/><BR/>Funny thing: I've never watched it with the original Japanese. It actually never occurred to me until recently. It's really Gillian Anderson's voice that bugs me, anyhow--she's not especially believable as a giant wolf.Bradhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10638457313380556662noreply@blogger.com
