I normally really love Danny Boyle's films, though yes, I suppose the 'character' development generally comes more from the story, which worked fine in Sunshine, 28 Days Later, etc. I believed Franco's character and didn't necessarily judge him. I just didn't feel anything. The flashbacks didn't particularly help. <br /><br />It just left me saying 'hm.'<br /><br />Oh! And don't get me started on the mediocrity of The Fighter...deadlydollshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06061028044836745499noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7295641698816483686.post-549767152507790852011-01-25T11:46:21.670-05:002011-01-25T11:46:21.670-05:00I think the issue you had with the film is one tha...I think the issue you had with the film is one that ended up being fairly common, and it's a complaint that I've often had with Boyle's films in general. I suppose more time could have been spent developing backstory or showing off Ralston's personality, but - unlike some other films this year - I wasn't left feeling that the character was making bad decisions to make things more tense rather than following what an actual human being would do in that circumstance. I can see why someone would feel an emotional distance, but this one simply worked for me in a way that some other well-liked films (like The Fighter, which I enjoyed despite some of the characters feeling like caricatures) never did.Doug Tilleyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17291634680094221868noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7295641698816483686.post-75397318992757788152011-01-25T07:25:54.695-05:002011-01-25T07:25:54.695-05:00I haven't figured it out, but I was so meh on ...I haven't figured it out, but I was so meh on 127 Hours. I usually love Danny Boyle, but there was something about this one that I realized towards the end, I really didn't care. I was thinking about a lot of other things that had nothing to do with the movie. Sure, I knew the ending but I don't think that really affected it. Something about this one just didn't connect with me and I'm genuinely trying to figure out why.deadlydollshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06061028044836745499noreply@blogger.com
