It's a good hook; I wanted to know who everyone was, how they were connected, how this scene and that fit together. It also sets up a narrative approach that is carried on through the film: only at the very end is the final truth revealed.

For the most part I agree that we don't learn enough about the characters to care too much what happens to them, but I did find the relationship/backstory of Nakadai's character and his brother compelling. However, that may be due mostly to the innate drama of their situation and the typical intensity of Nakadai's performance.Helenhttp://www.commentarytrack.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7295641698816483686.post-37924084395939826822009-06-17T14:29:51.742-04:002009-06-17T14:29:51.742-04:00Thanks Patrick. I've noticed the listing for your book on Amazon, actually, and I was thinking about giving it a look.

Looking back at this review, I feel that I really didn't get across how much fun it is. There are a lot of negatives to focus on, but perhaps I spent too much time on them, considering how great the film actually is, for fans of the genre.Bradhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10638457313380556662noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7295641698816483686.post-50907100767128698152009-06-17T12:06:44.189-04:002009-06-17T12:06:44.189-04:00Nice review, Ash.
